What is LIQUID?

Why Punk Rock?
Aesthetic. Texture. Message.
Just look at these two individuals to our right. The strange clown makeup, the spiked boots, the dyed fur coats. These women stand apart from society, and personify exactly what lies at the end of Laloo’s emotional arc.
The audience should leave with the urge to light their three-piece suits on fire, quit their 9-5 jobs, and recover their individual joi de vivre. Punk Rock showcases these ideals viscerally, succinctly, and without exposition. Also, it’s just a whole lot of fund to dress up like this.
Additionally, LIQUID will be using entirely PUNK ROCK music for its musical atmosphere. From the genre's birth in the 80s to the latest and greatest, we're going to cover as much historical ground as possible to bring this iconic music front and center.
SET
Simple. Transformative. Chic Punk.
Let’s not beat around the bush. Sets are expensive, and we’re on a budget. What we’re looking at is a simple, bare space, much like the bar that inspired this show. Ideally, through the use of a few painted canvases dropped down the walls, we can transform a bleak warehouse space into a punk rock fantasy. This transformation would occur towards the end of the show, externalizing the main character’s inner change. We also will need to install a few weight-rated points or beams, as well as some ground points.
Seats will be in the round, with tables around the perimeter à la Spiegel Tents. At each wall of the warehouse will be a fully functional bar, much like Liquid Diet, offering Artisanal Drinks corresponding to the acts being performed.
The space can also easily transition between Circus Space and Dance Floor. Hopefully, after the spectacle, the audience will be moved to dance and imbibe.
Chairs, bars, tables, and few dynamic rigging points. That’s all we need.
WHEN?
LIQUID is set to premier May 29, 2025, at the Dock5 Venue in Washington DC.
The status quo is to sneer at adulthood. Conversely, LIQUID will allow us to view adulthood as a treasure trove of interesting and appealing experiences. It will show how community bolsters happiness, how a shoulder to cry on is just as amazing as the ability to live wherever you want; converse, have sex, and reject whoever you want; literally do whatever you want. And best of all, we will never be preaching.
Our message, with luck and tact, will compel people to really examine their adult lives as an opportunity instead of an obstacle course. There’s still a whole lot of fun to be had, and all of it can be captured in this show.
